Job Description

Full-time, Manitoba or Saskatchewan

The Manager, Major Gifts and Philanthropy's primary role is for major giving solicitation strategies across a geographic area (this could be more than one province) , focused on cultivating long-term, donor-centered relationships and developing sustainable sources of income. Their secondary role is to oversee Philanthropy activities in Manitoba which includes, but is not limited to events, grants and foundation, sponsorships, etc.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the National Philanthropy Team they will maximize support from the community by enhancing volunteer engagement opportunities and securing significant philanthropic commitments that meet the highest priority needs of CNIB.

Covering a broad range of duties, the position involves working with internal and external constituents to build and manage relationships with prospective donors, sponsors, estate, and financial planning professionals; and providing stewardship and recognition to existing donors and their advisors in the advancement of gifts to CNIB.

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

  • Proactively use prospect identification, research, and qualification processes to generate prospects and grow major gift revenue.
  • Personally, manage a portfolio of key prospects (both corporate and individual), including identifying and qualifying leads; organizing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings; and engaging senior staff and volunteers when appropriate.
  • Develop and implement year-round donor cultivation opportunities, including working with a Major Gift Volunteer Leadership Committee.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance volunteer leader roles to support the major gift program and associated initiatives through the Philanthropy Working Group of the Board.
  • Advise prospects, donors, senior volunteers, staff and allied professionals on strategic moves, opportunities, and process.
  • Work with the stewardship team to deliver an exemplary donor-centric stewardship program, delivering ongoing communications materials that demonstrate impact and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with planned giving staff members nationally to identify opportunities in support of the program; maintain a direct interface with the National Director, Planned to Give.
  • Develop a philanthropy budget, prepare gift expectancies, and monitor income forecasts in relation to a major gifts and philanthropy portfolio.
  • Ensure appropriate administration of donor information in the donor database and supply reports and analyses to the Executive Director.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in major gift fundraising and philanthropy.
  • Manage other philanthropy activities such as events, grants and foundations, monthly giving, etc.

Relationships

  • Liaise and build strong relationships with stakeholders and include stakeholders in all appropriate stages of moves management for prospects and donors.
  • When appropriate, develop and maintain a network of allied professionals, internally and externally, for counsel in the planning of gifts.
  • Provide fundraising thought leadership, advice and guidance as needed to address key provincial and regional issues.
  • Strengthen donors' relationship with CNIB to help augment or accelerate existing gifts, as well as to ensure that those committed to revocable gifts will not alter their intentions.
  • Represent CNIB, as required, at events and with various funding agencies (for example, United Ways)

  • Provide strategic solutions to complicated problems in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the philanthropy team to develop and implement best practices, coordinate prospects, and deliver on team targets and goals.

Decision Autonomy

  • Work under the general guidance of national/divisional guidelines and standards, but exercise decision making skills on daily tasks.
  • Consult with the supervisor and senior staff on issues that are more complex or that may require upper-level approval.

Leadership

  • Facilitate and enhance team efforts on a professional level, and share specialized knowledge, resources, experience, concepts, and skills.
  • Take initiative in developing and cultivating relationships with potential donors to CNIB.
  • Provide strategic support and advice to senior volunteers and key internal stakeholders in the cultivation process.
  • Manage Philanthropy activities in Manitoba.
