Job Description

10-week term, Winnipeg, MB

This funded position through Canada Summer Jobs Program, will afford a youth-aged individual the opportunity to gain experience and learn practical skills associated with working in an organization that empowers people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion.

To be eligible for the funding associated with this position, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Your impact at CNIB
  • Assists with development and delivery of recreation outings.
  • Assists in researching local community programs and events for participants to attend.
  • Builds partnerships with other organizations to ensure that programs are inclusive for blind and partially sighted individuals.
  • Assists Program Leads, as required, in carrying out activities related to programs. This may include planning and implementing activities.
  • Assists Program Leads with administrative tasks as required.
  • Effectively communicates opportunities with volunteers and identifies volunteer interests.
  • Coordination and support of trio bike program in Winnipeg.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of day camps for children who are blind or partially sighted, including:
    • plan adaptive activities for the camp participants.
    • organize and coordinate volunteers for camp.
    • organize budget and documentation for camp.
    • any other camp duties as assigned.
  • Foundation Program participant outreach.
  • Other general office duties as assigned that may include reception coverage.
  • Data-entry and scanning of participant information where required.

Requirements

  • Attended full time University/College or Senior High School in the past academic year.
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office 365 applications and experience working in databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Customer Service experience an asset.
  • Experience working with disabilities an asset.
  • Applicants will require a police record check prior to offer of employment.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
