Job Description

Valard Construction LP (Valard) is Canada’s premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies and part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy.

Valard Construction LP is seeking an experienced Leadhand, responsible for assisting Foreman in leading onsite work crew to coordinate construction of underground shallow utilities in residential subdivisions including: trenching, streetlights, transformers, conduit, electrical cable, gas utility and telecommunication .

Requirements

Responsibilities:

Ensures all on-site construction is completed safely and in full accordance with plans, specifications and scheduling

The Lead-Hand is responsible for production efficiencies and quality of work performed by crew

Assist with training new personnel and actively mentor/cross-train employees

Ensure that the work area is kept safe as well as procedures. Maintain good housekeeping practices with job site left clean and hazard free at end of each day

Operate skid-steer, digger, backhoe and trackhoe equipment periodically and report required maintenance

Administering company standards, policies, procedures and other regulatory requirements

Work closely and provide direction to other divisions (hydrovac, directional drilling, etc) and subcontractors to execute projects successfully

Other duties as assigned


Qualification Profile:

Minimum 2-years’ experience in shallow utility construction

Demonstrated leadership ability with the ability to direct staff efficiently

Thorough knowledge of Fortis and Epcor URD specifications/ requirements

Strong team player with a positive attitude

Effective problem solver and communicator

Able to fully understand and work with electrical construction drawings

Must have a valid Class-5 driver’s license
