Job Description

As an employee of CNIB and part of the Finance team within CNIB this role will support and lead the finance activities for VLRC; CNIB’s top customer. Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will provide support for VLRC and the VLRC Board. The Director of Finance will be fully engaged in supporting VLRC as their finance lead. This involves establishing required processes and procedures and includes preparing monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports to support VLRC ELT, Committees and the Board. The Director of Finance is responsible for the development of VLRC financial management strategies and contributes to the development of the organization’s strategic goals by providing timely financial and accounting information, analysis and recommendations.

The ideal candidate for this position would be familiar with the government funding regime and the reporting and analysis that is required. They would leverage this experience to provide a link between financial information and analytics on cost of service delivery outcomes for the Board and Management.

Additionally, this role will serve VLRC in the formalization of other financial deliverables, activities, and governance ie. policies etc.


Essential Duties entail (but not limited to):
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate organizational policies and procedures in finance and general operations.
  • Promote transparency and accountability throughout the organization and ensure organizational compliance in accordance with professional accounting standards, laws and regulations.
  • Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures for Finance for VLRC.
  • Build deliverables, reports such as business cases to formalize growth and innovation opportunities.
  • Report configuration for Management, Board and audit purposes.
  • Coordinate annual budget process and related system set up.
  • Prepare annual audit financial statements and related notes.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and analysis to CEO, VP and delegates.
  • Prepare quarterly Board financial reports for Management discussions based on the analysis.
  • Provide support in cost and service analysis for VLRC.
  • Potential standing committee support (Finance and Risk, Audit).
  • Advises CFO and CEO and members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities and policy matters.
  • Serves as the management liaison to the Audit and Finance Committee.
  • Develops and implements annual budget; coordinates annual financial audit process.
  • Plans, budgets, and monitors fiscal activities, recommending appropriate corrective action when necessary.
  • Oversee all aspects of the organization’s risk management process and compliance with CRA and other agencies as may be required.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the organization's fiscal function and performance.
  • Other assignments as assigned by the Corporate Secretary; CFO including Annual General Meeting, membership paperwork, Industry Canada filings, Extra-Provincial registrations and Bylaw amendments.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong business orientation with exceptional expertise in financial management.
  • Familiarity with the Government funding regime and the required reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to process information and draw conclusions in order to provide continuous quality improvement.
  • Positive attitude, with the ability to motivate others.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.

Experience and Education:

  • A Business or Accounting degree
  • Completion of qualified accounting certifications (CA, CMA or equivalent).
  • Proficient in the use of computer software application, including highly competent knowledge of NetSuite and Excel.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior role ideally with both external audit and internal financial management experience.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong team leader with the ability to motivate a team.

Work Environment:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Travel may be required.
