BURNCO is currently looking for an experienced Plant Assistant within the Calgary area for the production operations of our Ready Mix division. This full-time seasonal position will report to the Operations Supervisor. You must have your own dependable transportation with the ability to work at various locations as required.

What You Will Be Doing

Based out of BURNCO's Calgary Shepard Plant (3145 Shepard Place SE) you will:

Key Responsibility Area #1

  • Ensure concrete is batched to proper specifications
  • Ensure all admixtures are put into the concrete in specified amounts
  • Communicate regularly with QA Dept., Dispatch and Maintenance Shop
  • Maintain confidentiality on all personnel matters, production and company information
  • Maintain paperwork associated with Plant production; inventories, timesheets, HSE inspections, FLRA’s, etc.
  • Fill aggregate storage bins with front end loader
  • Maintain Plant, Batch Office, Truck Barn, Storage Rooms, Plant Loader and Yard cleanliness to BURNCO standards on a daily basis
  • Assist Plant and Operations Supervisors as needed

Key Responsibility Area #2

  • Repair and maintenance of Plant equipment, including Loader, to keep in good working order and minimize downtime
  • Maintains boilers, steam generators and/or quick waters
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program
  • Coordinate ordering and receiving of Cements, Fly Ash, Aggregates, Admixtures, Value-Added products and store appropriately
  • Preparation and removal of lock block molds and stacking of lock blocks

Key Responsibility Area #3

  • Assists Plant Supervisor with directing Ready Mix Drivers
  • Contributes to positive Employee morale
  • Ensure Company HSE policies and procedures are followed

Additional Responsibilities

Plant Assistants will also be involved with duties involving:

  • Concrete Placing
  • Gravel Crew
  • Supervisor assigned

Requirements

What We Would Like From You

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in a Ready Mix plant environment
  • Basic understanding of Ready Mix concrete designs and applications
  • Heavy Equipment operating experience with Loader certification, and mechanical aptitude
  • Good computer, communication and people skills
  • Valid Driver’s License. EitherClass 1 or 3 Certification with Air Brake Endorsement would be a definite asset

Applicants should have the ability to safely work with and around heavy equipment and have the physical capacity to perform manual labour for an extended period at times. Flexibility to work overtime, shift work and Saturdays during busy season is required.

IMPORTANT: As this is safety sensitive position, it is a condition of employment that candidates successfully pass pre-employment testing that may include a criminal background check, drug (including Cannabis) and alcohol screening, as well as a Fit to Work physical assessment.
