Job Description

About The Software Team:

The software team is made up of 15 engineers from different disciplines of software development and test engineering with a purpose to deliver highly reliable software to our customers as quickly as possible. Everyone's input is valued and brainstorming is encouraged to solve complex challenges. Collaboration and trust are keys to the team's success.

Position Summary:

The Embedded Software Engineer works as part of a multi-disciplinary team focusing on embedded software products. This role involves making continuous improvements on existing products and supporting application engineering and production support teams. The Embedded Software Engineer designs, codes, integrates, tests and debugs software programs. The position will benefit from a candidate with a keen interest in continuously expanding knowledge in software technology and high reliability software development.

This position is full time, permanent.

Specific Duties:

  • Implements feature improvements.
  • Troubleshoots problems and corrects known issues.
  • Writes technical documentation.
  • Participates in peer code reviews.
  • Performs thorough validation to ensure the software changes are production ready.
  • Provides technical support for application engineers and the product support team.
  • Records daily activities and reports project progress.
  • Performs other duties in support of engineering objectives as required.

Requirements

  • University or College Education in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline coupled with relevant embedded software work experience or co-operative work experience.
  • Prior experience with C language and familiarity with embedded software development tools.
  • Able to operate electronic lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, data acquisition units and power supplies.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles.
  • Ability to understand hardware component data sheets and basic schematics.
  • Experience with software state machines.
  • Experience with software configuration management tools such as SVN or GIT.
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively on an individual basis and in a team.

The following skills are beneficial:

  • Competency in other programming languages, including scripting languages.
  • Experience using an RTOS.
  • Experience with applications such as JIRA and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Renesas RX or TI MSP430 microcontroller experience.
  • Experience with AC power systems and digital control systems.
  • Knowledge of CAN communication protocols.
