The Director, Asset Management (RAM) leads and coaches a team who manages the impaired non-consumer loan lt;$2MM portfolio. The Director and the Asset Management team member’s partner with stakeholders to provide support and seek timely resolution in high-risk credit situations. Using simple, effective and creative practices this team seeks to help our client’s while keeping losses within expectations.


Specific Accountabilities:

  • Mentor and coach a team located throughout Alberta (offices in Calgary and Edmonton) including recruitment, individual performance management, career development and employee engagement.
  • Be a driver of a positive teammate experience through developing a culture of empowerment, knowledge and accountability.
  • Daily demonstration of living and promoting ATB’s ID.
  • Review existing processes and approaches to file management to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of the team, while remaining within ATB’s expectation of the client experience.
  • Develop and execute recovery strategies on business and agricultural credit files referred from ATB Business, ensuring files are managed in a timely fashion and at the same time maximizing recoveries to minimize losses for ATB.
  • Ensure all policies and processes are adhered to in the management of the impaired assigned files (ie. initial impairment process, recovery process, disposition processes, etc) and all steps are documented
  • Review, approve or recommend recovery strategies submitted by Account Managers on files exceeding their level of authority.
  • Attend meetings with Account Managers, clients, receivers, solicitors and agents to negotiate repayment arrangements or realization through forbearance, receivership, bankruptcy or seizure.
  • Establish Specific Loan Loss Provisions for individually significant accounts.
  • Represent ATB through management of external relationships with solicitors, receivers and agents.
  • Manage and strengthen internal relationships with other departments such as Business, Finance, Risk Management, Credit and Portfolio Management.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring of assigned portfolio, including maintenance of regularly scheduled reporting to Risk Appetite Group.
  • Review all quarterly summaries on accounts to ensure action plans are proactive and realistic giving consideration to economic climate, industry risks, aging, etc.
  • Coordinate the annual review and update of policies, business rules, business guidelines and processes as they relate to Asset Management.
  • Other projects as determined by the Vice President, Risk Advisory amp; Management.


Requirements

  • Minimum five years of commercial, business and agricultural lending experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing problems loans, insolvency, bankruptcy, civil enforcement and litigation is required.
  • Effective negotiating and problem solving skills.
  • Proven leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in the management of Watchlist exposures (i.e. high risk, non-impaired loans) is an asset.
  • Completion of Business degree or equivalent related experience; CFA or MBA would be an asset.
  • Ability to effectively establish relationships with both internal amp; external clients and agents in the professional community.
