What is the role?

This is an exciting opportunity within the construction/fabrication technology team of a dynamic and challenging growth stage company. The overall objective of the Digital Construction and Digital Fabrication technology team is to manage and execute all daily tasks that are required to deliver the detailed scope of work within the projects focused on automation and prefabrication. As a Drafter/Detailer, you will collaborate with all stakeholders on projects to create 2D assembly / installation / single-piece shop drawings from 3D models for fabrication and construction purposes. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements, setting up production methods, generating bill of materials, and more!

Role Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and execute all Design/Fabrication/Assembly drawings in compliance with customer requirements;
  • Create 2D assembly / installation / fabrication drawings from 3D Models, rough sketches and specifications created by engineers and architects;
  • Evaluate drawings for accuracy with customer requirements and compliance with drawings standards;
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey correct information and are error-free;
  • Collaborate with teammates and management, architects, consultants, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers regarding design revisions and finalization;
  • Understand and correctly apply industry specifications and standards;
  • Ensure final designs comply with fabrication constraints and quality standards;
  • Produce Bill of Materials for each design to assist the purchasing and sales department from the customer;
  • Execute drawings for a multitude of disciplines: mass timber, framing, steel, facade, concrete, mechanical, etc.;
  • Manage revisions in the 2D documents that take place throughout the design and construction phases; and
  • Other duties, as required.

Requirements

Desired skills and experience:

  • 1-3 years experience working as a Drafter/Detailer; or similar experience
  • Basic understanding (at minimum) of GDamp;T is essential for fabrication processes and tolerances
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet tight and changing deadlines
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills desirable
  • Detail-oriented with the drive to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast-growing company and grow with the company
  • Excellent team player
  • BIM/VDC experience an asset
  • Familiar with 3D modeling tools and software an asset
    • Knowledge of CATIA drafting is not required, but a willingness to learn is desired
    • Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD a plus

Requirements:

  • Fluent in English
  • Legally entitled to work full-time in Canada

Education:

  • CAD Technician Certificate, Architectural Technical Certificate or other relevant certification an asset
  • 1-3 years experience working as a Drafter/Detailer; or technical degree in drafting
