Job Description

New Westminster or Victoria, BC (contract September to March)

The Program Coordinator, SmartLife and Accessible Technology Programs, will lead and empower integrated teams of staff and volunteers to develop and deliver virtual and in-person Accessible Technology Programs and Services that change the lives of Canadians who are blind or partially sighted - improving independence at home, work and play.

As a SmartLife Coach, this role will also assist clients in choosing the right products that meet their accessibility needs, either in-person through drop ins, appointments and organized workshops, or virtually. Under the supervision and guidance of the Manager, SmartLife Centres and Technology Programs, this role will be responsible for the development and execution of accessible technology programs; implementing best practices for current and new programs; identifying new program needs; managing associated funding and adhering to organization-wide service standards while maximizing positive experiences and outcomes for participants.

Accessible Technology Program Development

  • You will facilitate virtual and in-person, interactive workshops to instruct low vision/blind participants in the use of their iOS and Windows devices utilizing both built-in and add-on accessibility features.
  • You will identify accessible technology program needs and develop and execute programs to educate and train participants; implementing best practices for current and new programs.
  • You will implement and monitor outcome evaluation processes for all Accessible Technology Programs.
  • You will constantly seek opportunities to improve service delivery metrics, achieve key performance indicators, leveraging available impact and evaluation data to enhance participant outcomes.
  • You will keep abreast of best practices and new developments in Technology Programming for people who are blind or partially sighted, and proactively bring forward ideas on how to improve all aspects of the work we do.
  • You will represent SmartLife at all technology fairs and demonstration opportunities and when appropriate, facilitate access to leading vendors of assistive technology.
  • You will promote awareness of provincial and national accessibility technology discussion groups and resources, funding sources, as well as other specialized products for people with sight loss.

SmartLife Coach

  • Serve as a backup to existing SmartLife coaches by lending support to sales and support initiatives.
  • Assist customers in navigating the SmartLife Centre and e-commerce site. Recommend technology and devices that meet customer needs.
  • Offer one-on-one training to potential SmartLife customers on wearable devices and video magnifiers, especially those being trialed through the SmartLife Tech @ Home program.

General

  • Monitor regional Salesforce content, ensuring accurate and timely data entry and a prompt client referral and engagement process
  • Maintain up-to-date participant files; complete all service tracking in a timely manner; participate in internal meetings; and prepare and provide reports regarding programs and activities.
  • Provide resources and work in collaboration and consultation with other CNIB and Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada subject matter experts and departments.

  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to plan and deliver clear communications to a diverse audience portrays the appropriate professional image.
  • Experience in program development, outcome evaluation and project management.
  • Strong proficiency in Accessible Technologies, iOS platforms, MS Office Suites and internet-based software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem definition and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven time management, planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Effective and efficient in initiating and supporting multiple simultaneous projects and initiatives.
  • Professional attitude, results oriented, strategic and flexible.
  • Knowledge of Accessibility Standards and best practices.
