Job Description

As Junior Estimator, you will be responsible for providing timely day-to-day implementation, administration, maintenance, monitoring and execution of Aamp;B’s Bid Tender Process. This position will assist in evaluating bid specifications and drawings and accurately developing successful bid tenders and strategies for small to large sized pipeline construction projects. The Junior Estimator will support Aamp;B Management through the bid tender phase by reviewing drawings and identifying areas of concern, determining equipment and labor requirements, projecting timelines, preparing cost summaries, contacting vendors and stakeholders, and ensuring bids are submitted accurately and on time.

  • The employee will assist with the implementation of successful bid strategies by helping to establish and document consistent project estimating guidelines, standards, and structure.
  • Assist with preparing complex pipeline construction estimates.
  • Participation and contribution to pre-bid meetings, including field office, client and site visits as required.
  • Assisting with the administration of bid pre-qualifications.
  • Identification of the scope of work based on bid specifications and drawings
  • Consistent communication with project leads to identify resource requirements and to identify any potential issues and solution.
  • Meet multiple deadlines and ensure tenders are in on time.
  • Participate in any internal meetings regarding, costs, tracking and Aamp;B pre kick off meetings
  • Obtain and review subcontractor quotations.
  • Regularly and consistently meet tight deadlines and ensure tenders are in on time.

Requirements

  • Residing within (or willing to relocate to) the Blackfalds, Alberta area.
  • New or recent graduate of an accredited Canadian Engineering program.
  • Registered as an engineer-in-training with applicable governing body (APEGA or equivalent).
  • 1-2 years of experience in the below ground utility (pipeline) industry is considered an asset.
  • Skills and knowledge understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand relevant construction documents including drawings and specifications. Understanding of estimating and project management theories, methodologies and industry practices is considered an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines in fast paced environment.
  • Experience estimating small to large sized pipeline construction projects is considered an asset.
  • A team player with excellent attention to detail, a strong work ethic and excellent oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, scheduling software and Outlook.
  • Previous experience developing technical plans for submission to client is an asset.
