Job Description

Position Overview:

This position is integral to the ongoing development and success of Delta-Q's products and its software and hardware capabilities. The Battery Test Technician or Technologist conducts work in Delta-Q's customized in-house battery lab. The lab holds and tests a diverse range of battery chemistries, including lead-acid and lithium-ion. This is a unique and specialized role at Delta-Q and is well suited for someone who is keen in developing their skills in software testing, data analysis and battery/charger knowledge.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

Specific Duties:

  • Develops and executes battery cycling test plans (charge and discharge of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries) and creates test reports to support battery charge algorithm development.
  • Develops and executes software test plans and creates test reports to support the product development of the software team.
  • Develops and executes competitor charger test plans and hardware tear-down analysis and creates test reports.
  • Develops and executes charger efficiency tests and creates rest reports for regulatory compliance.
  • Connects battery packs and test equipment with power and measurement wiring.
  • Collects logged test data and works with PC application tools for test data analysis.
  • Periodically measures and records battery mass and specific gravity.
  • Performs diagnostics and maintenance on batteries, test equipment, and wire harnesses.
  • Implements and builds improved battery testing systems and equipment to expand lab capability.
  • Supports other departments to ensure that new or existing procedures follow ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 quality standards.
  • Diagnoses and reports faulty product and/or battery operation.
  • Manages the cleanliness and upkeep of the battery lab and its equipment.
  • Occasionally lifts batteries and other items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Relevant technical education combined with experience in a similar role.
  • Previous software testing experience including the use of NI LabView and NI TestStand.
  • Previous experience operating lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, data acquisition units, electronic loads and power supplies.
  • Ability to process and analyze large amounts of data.
  • Experience using MS Excel and other PC application tools for reporting, logging and data analysis.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Hands on experience with common shop tools and hand assembly.
  • Physically able to move, lift and carry weights of up to 100 lbs.
  • Highly resourceful and autonomous with excellent teamwork, organization and time management skills.
  • Keen interest in continuously expanding knowledge in software and battery testing methodology.
  • Aptitude with electrical wiring and cooling system routing to create organized test systems.


The following are considered beneficial:

  • Experience with lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.
  • Knowledge and understanding of battery materials, design and manufacturing of battery cells, and its testing.
  • Familiarity with soldering.
  • Experience with test equipment calibration and measurement uncertainty.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 quality systems.
  • Work experience in a product manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with warehouse equipment, such as manual and powered pallet jacks.
  • Able to interpret and create electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Controller Area Network Bus (CANBus) protocols.
