Job Description

12 week contract, 20 hours per week

The Associate, CNIB SmartLife and Technology Programs, will play a key role in changing the lives of Canadians who are blind or partially sighted by improving independence at home, work and play through technology in-person and virtual consultations through the new SmartLife Centre. The Associate, CNIB SmartLife and Technology Programs, will be key in working alongside the SmartLife Coach to develop solutions and strategies with clients to promote independence through every aspect of their lives. As CNIB SmartLife Associate, you will provide assistance to actively support potential and current clients through drop ins, appointments and organized workshops held regularly through the CNIB SmartLife Centre to expose them to the possibilities with modern day accessible technology.


Your impact at CNIB
  • Assist in building and maintaining customer relationships by leveraging the portfolio of CNIB accessibility products, services, and programs
  • Building strong, positive relationships with participants and seeking insight into their unique needs, goals, and lived experiences, to better tailor appropriate solutions
  • Educating participants of the current accessible high-tech solutions that are the future and the present through hands-on and virtual demonstrations and product testing groups
  • Provide administrative support by connecting with participants in the Phone it Forward, Tech Mate, AT Waitlist, and Connecting with Technology programs
  • Assist participants with basic troubleshooting of their iOS devices.
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person, interactive workshops to instruct low vision/blind participants in the use of their iOS and Windows devices - including both built-in, and add-on, accessibility features

Requirements

Eligibility:

We acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.

Due to the government-funded nature of this position, the successful candidate must be:

  • qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance Act as a person with persistent multiple barriers to employment; or
  • designated under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act as a person with disabilities.
  • qualified to receive assistance as a Persons with Disabilities (PWD) or Person with Persistent Multiple Barriers (PPMB) from a Treaty First Nation that is funded through the Federal Department of CrownIndigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada; or
  • qualified to receive assistance as a Persons with Disabilities (PWD) or Person with Persistent Multiple Barriers (PPMB) from a First Nation Administering Authority that administers an Income Assistance Program on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or relevant experience is an asset
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset
