Create electrical and pneumatic schematics for custom automation systems. Develop a detailed layout of the project in an accurate, organized, cost efficient manner that the electrical department can implement efficiently and meets customer requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary role is to develop electrical and pneumatic schematics within SolidWorks Electrical and Eplan
- Present concepts/designs at concept reviews, internal design reviews, and at customer design reviews
- Support the Applications group by developing concepts, estimating design labour, and estimating controls purchases
- Identify and research electrical and pneumatic components for the project to ensure they meet requirements
- Develop RFQs for major control system purchases and communicate with the supplier(s) involved
- Communicate with suppliers to discuss component specifications, pricing, and lead time
- Document information for Customer Manuals: As built Schematics, BOMs, spare parts lists, maintenance items, and OEM documentation
- Work in conjunction with manufacturing to review schematics confirming accuracy and identifying ways to optimize the system
- Communicate with customer throughout project to ensure controls system meets customer specifications and standards
- Lead a team of controls designers on medium to large projects to ensure that functional specifications, budget, and timelines are met
- Mentor and train junior employees
- Develop and document department standards and best practices
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years’ experience.
- College Level Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma
- 442A Industrial or 309A Construction Electrical License (not a prerequisite)
- Computer Expertise: Microsoft Office, SolidWorks Electrical, Eplan, AutoCAD Electrical
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of custom machine building and processes including vision, laser, assembly, welding, etc.
- Understanding of Ontario Electrical Code
- Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, CSA guarding and robot safety standards
- Thorough understanding of various styles of electrical schematics
- Familiarity with physical panel build and wiring
- Understanding of electrical circuits and function
