Due to expansion and internal growth, Altom Canda is looking for a General Manager to help support our operations and sales network. Although the responsibilities will be various, below is a brief description and list of skills needed to be successful.

- Preferred knowledge in liquid bulk transportation industry
Responsibilities
- Support full safety culture. Meet with insurer and insurance broker to discuss / implement best practices. Ensure compliance with all Federal and Provincial laws and regulations.
- Attend / hold quarterly safety meetings
- Support driver development program
- Perform road tests and safety review rides as needed
- Build and support Altom Canada Safety Committee
- Maintain a people first culture of teamwork with drivers as well as support staff.
- Develop and maintain relationships with all drivers. Learn what type of runs they prefer and how we can best support their work. Secure business leads /suggestions from them and communicate to sales and management
- Optimize driver utilization by communicating daily with dispatch to ensure based on location, we are assigning correct rivers to correct assignments.
- Track and maintain trailer pools in Buffalo, Breslau, GTA and Sarnia. Identify overages and plan to move equipment to Hammond, IN.
- Track and maintain Altom Canada equipment to retain in the GTA / Chicago markets
- Create equipment files for all Altom Canada equipment and storage at Breslau office.
- Coordinate with safety to secure license plates for all new equipment. This will include going to the Ministry of Transportation to pay for and secure plates needed.
- Identify equipment needs and communicate to management, track vehicle maintenance with TMT/Transman.
- Identify vendors and create a contact list for: VIKs, Annual Inspections, hoses, and fittings as well all other tractor and trailer repairs needed.
- Create and maintain a maintenance calendar of all Altom Canada equipment to identify by month annual inspections, VIKs ETC.
- Map drivers’ residences and identify closest shippers to alleviate dead head.
- Identify Canadian shippers for south bound lanes. Communicate to sales
- Grow our fleet. Help find, recruit drivers and support hiring process. Work with new hires to identify required documents and help secure.
- Retain Owner Operator monthly maintenance records
- Learn and support payroll process. Learn the system to be able to resolve any pay discrepancies as well as provide back up in time of need.
