The Associate Director will support the origination, development, due diligence, approval, monitoring and implementation of public and private sector energy infrastructure customers in the capital markets space. Energy Infrastructure can include: (a) Power - generation, transmission, distribution, (b) Energy - pipelines, midstream, gathering systems, LNG/LPG exports, storage, terminals, blending, refineries, (c) Project Finance - major energy infrastructure projects, solar, wind, hydro.

The primary focus of the Associate Director is to provide credit assessment, risk analysis, account maintenance and assist with achieving profitable growth while ensuring optimum client service is provided.

We are looking for a business savvy, yet accurate and determined individual. A courageous problem solver - we like to hire people who can think through problems and develop solutions that make sense for the business, for our team members and for our leaders.

You will find success based on your ability to:

  • Prepare credit assessments through completion of an application for credit. Ability to take large volumes of information and distill down to concise, easily understood risk assessment.
  • Assist in authorizing loans to customers after performing credit analysis and obtaining the required documentation, collateral and security to support the loan.
  • Administer existing loans including renewals.
  • Ensure credit decisions / recommendations are in accordance with sound credit granting principles and are in accordance with ATB lending policy and procedures.
  • Manage risk through account monitoring to identify and act upon any deterioration of account or portfolio risk. This includes ongoing monitoring of industry reports, lender technical reports, project agreements, as well as interim and year-end financial information/statements.
  • Assist the sales team with improving efficiencies and profitability of the business unit.
  • Participate in sales team meetings, sharing successes, best practices and other information with the team.
  • Manage internal and external relationships in a positive and constructive manner.

Requirements

As the ideal candidate you possess:

  • 25 years of infrastructure, commercial or business lending experience.
  • Knowledge of senior (secured and unsecured) lending - project / structured finance lending experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of investment banking, syndicated loan facilities, and derivative products is an asset.
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline and a MBA, CFA or accounting designation would be an asset.
  • Desire to learn the intricacies of lending and become proficient in understanding complex legal documents, contracts and detailed financial models.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with sophisticated clients.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and establish priorities to manage multiple issues under demanding timelines.
  • High level of integrity and credibility.
  • Proven ability to produce effective results while working independently with limited supervision, but also be an effective team member.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Strong personal computer skills with proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet specific timelines that are often imposed.
