Job Description

Overview:

The Payroll Coordinator will assume responsibility for the administration and processing of one of three bi-weekly payrolls. This includes hourly and salaried employees.

Hours worked 24-40 per week until December 31, 2022, and is an on-site role.

The role includes administering the computerized payroll programs. This includes the preparation, verification and payment of wages and salaries, deductions and employer liabilities resulting from the various payrolls as well as preparing governmental, agency, carrier and company reports. The incumbent coordinates and ensures the employee benefits data and carrier billing is correct and remits payments.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the administration of assigned payroll, verifying all the calculations (earnings and appropriate deductions), ensuring Federal/Provincial and legal requirements are met.
  • Consult with employees and resolve queries regarding salaries, RRSPs amp; benefits, time reporting, earnings and deductions, employee time off as well as other related issues.
  • Conducts reconciliation of accounts, as required, for Federal/Provincial taxes, garnishees and RRSPs, or other programs adopted by the company. The incumbent answers inquiries and ensures that employees' requests are completed, contributions are accurately documented and action is taken.
  • Initiate, analyze, and balance internal/external reporting documentation for MacEwen such as accounting journals for payroll transactions, salaries amp; benefits, bank accounts, tracking vacation accruals, government statistical reporting, interacting with auditors and accounting staff and preparing reports requested by management.
  • And any other duties which may reasonably be required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to be Successful:

  • College diploma in Business or Accounting is required.
  • 2+ years previous experience in processing payroll, ideally with a premium payroll provider.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification or working towards.
  • Exemplary attention to detail is essential.
  • Highly organized.
  • Must be a self-starter and proactive.
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate integrity and confidentiality is essential.
