Job Description

Joining a team of seasoned, passionate fundraisers supporting one of BC’s leading critical care hospitals, the Manager, Annual Giving will play a leadership role in the development and execution of the expanding Direct Response and Community Events programs at Royal Columbian Hospital. This role will continue to build on the success of recent growth in digital acquisition and develop a new version of events.

The Manager, Annual Giving is a key member of the Engagement team. This role is responsible for planning and implementing strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and sponsors to support the mission of Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF). This role will develop and execute direct mail and email solicitation strategies, manage the Partners in Care monthly giving program, and lead third party and special events. The Manager, Annual Giving will focus on strategically expanding the organization's annual giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts.

ABOUT ROYAL COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL

Royal Columbian provides the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from throughout the region and province. We are a provincial referral centre for cardiac care, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk maternity, neonatal intensive care, and mental health. No other hospital in the province provides this level of care, or offers all these services, on one site or in such high volumes.

Right now, Royal Columbian is undergoing a $1.49 billion multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment. This is one of the largest government-funded health care redevelopments in BC’s history.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Whether it’s a heart attack, car accident, tumor removal or a stroke, Royal Columbian Hospital is known for providing the highest level of care during life or death medical moments. Often, patients and their families wish to express gratitude and honour the care received with a gift to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

The Manager, Annual Giving will leverage compelling stories of the hospital with the mass mailings, working closely with other members of the Engagement Team.

In addition, the Manager, Annual Giving will be responsible for developing and executing plans to grow the Events portfolio. Still recovering from the effects of the pandemic, your role will advise the organization on what our new future in this area can resemble.

KEY AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT

Working collaboratively with all RCHF fundraising teams, the Manager, Annual Giving will:

  • Have responsibility for strategy and execution of Direct Response Appeals (paper based and digital), including stewardship and recognition activities
  • Design, manage and execute a comprehensive Direct Response program (direct mail and online giving strategies) and regularly review program results for refinement and ROI
  • Develop and execute strategies for new donor acquisition and growth, with a focus on digital options and utilizing multi-pronged approach to appeals
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with individual donors, volunteers, alumni, and community stakeholders
  • Further develop and implement Partners in Care monthly giving program to establish a pipeline of annual giving donors
  • Collaborate with other departments and staff to establish benchmarks and regular reporting processes to measure results of all annual fund activities
  • Work closely with other members of Engagement Team to develop and manage consistent messaging to donors and prospects
  • Assist in the creation of external content and collateral, including but not limited to appeals, newsletters, social media, website, and invitations
  • Lead, plan and execute third party and special events in support of RCHF
  • Solicit and manage all vendors related to special events, and manage and negotiate contracts with input from the Vice President, Engagement
  • Build reputation of RCHF as a leader in event execution

Requirements

University degree with five (5) years minimum experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising (or similar field). Specific knowledge relating to digital marketing is a must, as is experience in a health care environment and experience with event management. Experience with MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook and working knowledge of Raiser's Edge required. Valid BC driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is also required.
