The Funeral Service Association of Canada (FSAC) is a national not-for-profit trade association representing funeral homes, cemeteries, crematoriums, and funeral service professionals across Canada. The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Funeral Service Association of Canada and reports to the Board of Directors. The role is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.

What you will do:

Governance and Strategic Business Management

  • Facilitates the ongoing development of the association’s vision, mission, and strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors and once adopted, participates in the promotion and implementation of the strategic plan
  • Provides leadership in developing programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and the association’s administrative operations
  • Effectively research grant-awarding organizations and government agencies for funding opportunities to support specific program development proposals that advance the sustainability and delivery of deathcare services.
  • Manage master timelines for the development and assessment of the association’s goals
  • Develop clear policy manuals and documentation to help enforce these policies
  • Develops mechanisms to measure return on investment on multiple levels, including membership, sponsorship, events, programs, and services
  • Help to develop and review RFPs to ensure that the association is receiving the best value for its investments
  • Oversees the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all projects approved by the Board, including ensuring that reporting responsibilities are met
  • Identifies, assesses, and informs the Board of Directors on internal and external issues that may affect the association and proposes actions to address those issues
  • Conducts board orientations and leadership development and facilitates board communications
  • Supports the President in ensuring that the Board assumes its governing roles and responsibilities
  • Provides support to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials and by writing and circulating the minutes of the regular meetings
  • Fosters effective teamwork among the Board, the association’s committees, volunteer members and staff
  • Helps to delegate duties and streamline the cohesion of the volunteers
  • Promotes participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work
  • Oversees the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the association
  • Ensures that the systems and processes enable the association to meet its obligations to the Board/Executive Committee and other committees, member volunteers, members, funders and staff
  • Conducts official correspondence on behalf of the Association, Board and/or in collaboration with the Board, when appropriate
  • Ensures that the association complies with all federal and provincial laws, and the association’s governing policies and procedures.

Fiscal Performance and Vitality

  • Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the association
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support FSAC’s mission
  • In collaboration with the association’s Finance Committee be responsible for the fiscal integrity of FSAC, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the association
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resources utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
