PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
As a member of the Quality team, the Metallurgical Laboratory Technician reports to the Quality Manager. The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician is responsible for evaluation, control, and completion of metallurgical and dimensional analysis of regular production throughout all stages of manufacturing, as well as analysis of new products, materials, and process developments as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs metallurgical amp; sediment analysis of all products as required
- If evaluation shows parts outside of specification, follows Containment and Corrective Action procedures outlined in IATF 16949 documentation. Whenever possible, initiates line-side problem-solving and resolution techniques.
- Maintains accurate records of test data, archives reports, and tests samples
- Calibrates test equipment and production gauging as per frequency required (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly)
- Maintains and improves 5S performance and all lean manufacturing principles
- Maintains lab equipment in proper working order
- Develops and performs preventive maintenance activities for lab equipment and production gauging
- Verifies thermal operations by monitoring and testing process variables
- Monitors and maintains powder properties database to verify quality of material prior to release to production
- Provides technical support to production and thermal operations (sinter, temper, induction, steam treatment)
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives
- Adheres to Stackpole’s policies and procedures
- Adheres and supports Stackpole’s Safety and Environmental policies and practices
- Ensure the requirements of the Quality Management System, IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 are conformed to

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Must have Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) Certification Level 1 or currently working towards certification
- Technologist graduate with minimum three years of postsecondary education in metallurgy and material science preferred
- 1 to 3 years of experience in high speed manufacturing with emphasis on Metallurgical Engineering
- Familiarity with the principles of analytical chemistry, statistics, measurement fundamentals, material properties, material manufacturing processes, lab and process automation and production metallurgy
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office product (i.e. Word, Excel, Access)
- Effective customer service experience
- Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation
