Role amp; Responsibilities

Alchemy is expanding its automotive products portfolio to better support its existing channel, enter new market and channel segments, and introduce new products through strategic partnerships with new suppliers.

We are looking for a Materials amp; Testing Process Engineering Speciality to support our product development initiatives through testing, evaluating, and documentation activities. This role will situate within our Engineering team, between the Ramp;D and Manufacturing amp; Operations groups. Your priorities, day-to-day activities, and resourcing will be supported by the Engineering team. You will have the chance to make valuable contributions to both the Ramp;D and Manufacturing amp; Operations teams, learning and adapting to the different management styles.

Your responsibilities will include four major activities:

  1. Testing
    • Support QA and standardized testing for our coating innovation products by modifying, adding, and removing tests where appropriate and providing training to lab staff
    • Support Alchemy’s Ramp;D in testing and troubleshooting activities while products are transitioning to manufacturing
    • Perform incoming material quality evaluations on suspect material batches and make recommendations on usability
  2. Evaluating
    • Identify areas for improvement and optimize machine availability, cycle time, utilization, and cost
    • Investigate product quality issues related to Alchemy’s manufacturing process and our contractors
    • Determine manufacturing equipment requirements and commission new equipment on arrival
    • Co-ordinate with production staff to identify areas for improvement
  3. Data and Analysis
    • Analyze process data to determine weak links in the manufacturing process
    • Identify and execute continuous improvement projects focused on improving quality, yield, and cost of existing products
  4. Documentation
    • Communicating key results to the wider engineering team and business team when appropriate
    • Formalize new processes and maintain existing process documentation and SOPs

You will report directly to our Sr. Manufacturing and Operations Manager and Head of Ramp;D

Requirements

Our engineering team is striving to leverage rapid iteration cycles in order to meet ambitious delivery deadlines. You will be expected to move fast, which will often require using your technical expertise amp; judgment to find effective ways to accelerate project timelines without sacrificing quality.

In order to succeed in this role, you should have relevant experience in the following areas:

  • Polymer chemistry
  • Analytical chemistry
  • Test design
  • Data analysis
  • Documentation amp; reporting

We strongly prefer that you have prior experience in relevant fields, but are willing to overlook any lack of experience for a relentless, hungry, and talented candidate:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical/Materials/Nanotechnology Engineering or other relevant degree from an Ontario university. Current students in their final year of education with an April graduation date are welcome to apply!
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience either through co-op terms or post-graduate employment
  • Strong interperson
