Responsibilities

Windshield protection film is a massively growing segment in the automotive aftermarket industry. Alchemy’s first commercial product, ExoShield, is currently the fastest growing, and most widely known windshield protection film on the market. Alchemy is recruiting for a new product team that we are creating. As the core employee into this new initiative, you will be building this product from the ground up including but not limited to:

  • Planning, conceptualizing, and create designs for a new production process
  • Prototype building and development for beta testing and technology demonstrations
  • Designing mechanical systems, including identifying and selecting materials and mechanisms appropriate for highly dynamic machines.
  • Developing manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Create mechanical design documents and drawings for parts, assemblies, finished products
  • Interact with manufactures, fabricators, and suppliers
  • Testing assemblies and validating design choices
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues and implementing effective solutions
  • Supervise any additional technician or engineers joining this project
  • Conduct and/or assist in technical product trials and Ramp;D initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary Ramp;D team

This role will insert you immediately into our core team and provide you with the opportunity to make key contributions to our most critical product lines and projects. You will be expected to move fast, which will often require using your technical expertise amp; judgment to find effective ways to accelerate project timelines without sacrificing quality.

Alchemy is a rapidly growing startup with rapid iteration cycles and ambitious delivery deadlines. In order to succeed in this role, you should have an advanced level of expertise in the following areas:

  • Be comfortable building new mechanical systems from scratch, including working with CAD, machine shops, and control systems
  • A solid foundation in DoE and statistics, with preferred experience in formulation optimization/ coating process optimization
  • Working with ASTM standards, ISO standards and their certification process
  • Knowledge in polymer, and materials testing and characterization is strongly preferred

We strongly prefer that you have prior experience in relevant fields, but are willing to overlook any lack of experience for a relentless, hungry, and talented candidate:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Materials, or Chemical Engineering with 2-5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 0-3 years of experience
  • Experience with robotics and automation
  • Experience working in a materials testing lab and familiarity with abrasion testing, tensile testing, surface characterization, optical characterization, and coordinating field tests
  • Proactive and self-starter attitude with a focus on continuously finding new ways to increase your productivity
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities/ time under a dynamic high pressure environment
