Job Description

This full-time permanent role sits within the newly-formed Tax Function at Nuvei, a publicly-listed, global financial technology (FinTech) company. We are looking for someone who has the drive to help build a global Tax Function from ground up, and act as a key partner to the business. The successful candidate will have FinTech industry knowledge, as well as broad expertise in corporate income tax (CIT) especially transfer pricing and international tax planning indirect tax and operational tax information reporting regimes across the Latin America (LatAm) region. He or she will be able to integrate their FinTech industry knowledge with their broad tax expertise to advise on and design global FinTech service offerings.

This is an individual contributor role, so it is for someone who is hands-on and able to partner successfully with both Finance and non-Finance Teams across the LatAm region and globally. Although the short-term focus will be establishing and leading the Tax Function for the LatAm region, the longer term plan is for this person to take greater responsibility in managing additional regions and/or other global CIT initiatives. Therefore, the successful candidate must have the flexibility, curiosity and capacity to apply best practices learned in a LatAm context to a global and acquisitive environment.

This role reports into Nuvei’s Global Head of Tax and will work closely with other members of the global Tax Function, based out of Toronto, ON, and other members of the global Finance Function, primarily based out of Montreal, QC.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this role are grouped into three workstreams:

General Tax Advisory

Corporate Income Tax

  • Develop and implement external and internal global contracting structures, which may be part of a new global FinTech service offering or internal operational support structure, in collaboration with outsourced advisors, Accounting, Legal and Product Teams, as well as other teams within the business.
  • Draft, review, and evaluate legal agreements pertaining to contracting structures.
  • Identify, design, and execute CIT planning initiatives with outsourced advisors and the Legal Team, which may relate to Mamp;A activities, internal financing structures and/or restructuring projects, and/or cross-border cash repatriation.
  • Advise others in the organization of CIT implications of new and varied business initiatives in the LatAm region, consulting with outsourced advisors as needed.
  • Advise the Accounting Team on LatAm indirect tax issues.
  • Familiarity with the LatAm indirect taxes on digital services and withholding taxes.
  • Advise the Payroll Team on LatAm employment tax issues, as necessary.
  • Familiarity with personal and corporate income taxation of equity compensation (i.e. stock options, Restricted Stock Units, etc.) for both employees and consultants is an asset.
  • Advise the Product Team on LatAm operational tax information reporting (i.e. the OECD’s proposed Crypto asset reporting framework amp; amendments to the Common Reporting Standard and Model Reporting Rules for Digital Platforms).
  • Manage the preparation of CIT returns for legal entities in the LatAm region by working with both outsourced advisors and local Controllers.
  • Assist outsourced advisors and local Controllers with complex issues raised during CIT audits by various Tax Authorities.
  • Work with outsourced advisors to complete transfer pricing documentation (i.e. local and master files), Mandatory Disclosure Reporting and other local tax forms (i.e. W/H tax compliance).
  • Work with outsourced advisors and Ramp;D Teams to ensure that Ramp;D tax incentives are claimed in all available jurisdictions.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is stored on the Tax Function’s SharePoint site.
  • Review of quarterly CIT provisions for LatAm legal entities prepared by local Controllers.
  • Ensure that transfer pricing policies and CIT planning outcomes are correctly implemented by the Accounting Teams, and ultimately factored into local statutory F/S and CIT returns.

Indirect Tax

  • Advise the Accounting Team on LatAm indirect tax issues.
  • Familiarity with the LatAm indirect taxes on digital services and withholding taxes.

Other Taxes

  • Advise the Payroll Team on LatAm employment tax issues, as necessary.
  • Familiarity with personal and corporate income taxation of equity compensation (i.e. stock options, Restricted Stock Units, etc.) for both employees and consultants is an asset.
  • Advise the Product Team on LatAm operational tax information reporting (i.e. the OECD’s proposed Crypto asset reporting framework amp; amendments to the Common Reporting Standard and Model Reporting Rules for Digital Platforms).
