The Canadian Press is looking for a bilingual Business Development Representative to join our team immediately in a full-time position located in Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa. OUR MISSION

The Canadian Press is Canada's bilingual national news agency, trusted by leading media brands to deliver fast, accurate and impartial reporting for more than 100 years. Our Sales amp; Marketing team is responsible for promoting, selling and providing customer service for a growing suite of solutions, including:

  • Licensed news content (articles, photos, graphics, video, audio) used by clients such as The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, La Presse, CTV, CBC, Yahoo, MSN and many more;
  • Branded content (blog posts, whitepapers, ebooks, photos, video, infographics), tailor made for each client’s exclusive use in their content marketing program; and,
  • CP style webinars, workshops and books on writing and editing.

For organizations looking to earn media coverage and anticipate potential crises, we also provide Canada’s only media forecasting platform, alerting them in real time to CP wire stories that will be published imminently by countless websites, or that are likely to appear in tonight’s radio/TV newscasts and/or tomorrow’s newspapers.

We’re developing the next generation of our SaaS products for public relations, marketing and communications professionals and revolutionizing the client-facing platforms used by media and PR clients to access our content and services. We’re looking for a bilingual Business Development Representative to generate qualified opportunities for our sales team, especially for the first of our new products launching this year.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

As a bilingual Business Development Representative, you will secure meetings with qualified prospects for our sales team, mainly targeting potential media clients and PR/communications professionals at enterprise accounts, small and medium-sized businesses, agencies, associations, government organizations and not-for-profits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve or exceed sales activity targets (number of meetings, number of qualified opportunities).
  • Develop, maintain and convert a pipeline of leads into qualified opportunities for the sales team. This includes: promptly qualifying inbound leads; identifying and prioritizing the right contacts and accounts to target in Canada; booking sales demos/meetings via a consistent volume of quality outbound activity (emails, Linkedin messages, cold calls, networking events); and, effectively using our Salesforce CRM to maintain an up-to-date pipeline with accurate customer and opportunity details, next steps and meeting dates.
  • Prepare and deliver tailored pitches to each prospect, raising awareness and sparking interest, asking the right questions, actively listening and performing research that helps you highlight the specific benefits that are important to them.
  • Develop a strong understanding of our target markets and how to position and differentiate our products, including effectively addressing objections.
  • Provide support to and collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Product Development teams as needed, including joining sales demos, building campaign lists and sharing customer feedback.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a sales-related environment, preferably at B2B SaaS companies.
  • Prior experience working with media, PR, marketing and communications professionals is an asset.
  • Very driven, disciplined and dedicated to overachieving and succeeding with strong time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Confident and energetic with excellent presentation, verbal and written communications skills in English and French required.
  • Solutions-oriented and creative with the ability to generate interest and urgency, uncover customer needs, present relevant products/services, overcome objections and motivate action.
  • Fast learner who takes initiative, is resourceful, organized, and able to effectively multi-task.
